The Editors’ Roundtable Series, first launched in 1997 in Luxembourg, aims to enrich the exchange of ideas and perspectives among opinion leaders from Asian and European media organisations. The Roundtable endeavours to provide unique access for the Editors to newsmakers within the ASEM process. This programme gathers senior editors of major print or broadcast media to exchange perspectives on current affairs that are pertinent to Asia and Europe.

The 6th Asia-Europe Editors’ Roundtable was organised on 13 October 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand. Organised in partnership with the United Kingdom based think-tank, Chatham House, the Roundtable offered a chance to look deeper into the shifting economic reality and examine the reforms needed in the International monetary system in Asia and Europe. It brought together media professionals from top news outlets across Asia and Europe together with financial experts. The Bangkok Post was the official media partner for this event.

Titled “Multiple Currencies for a Multi-polar World”, the Roundtable was held in conjunction with the ASEM Finance Ministers’ Meeting, which took place on 14-15 October 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Roundtable thus presented a unique opportunity for senior editors to participate in a focused discussion which examined the push towards a multiple currency system to suit the emergence of a multi-polar world.

Participation in the Roundtable was limited to about 24 financial experts and senior editors/eminent commentators from Asia and Europe whom we recognise as leading voices in the media.
