WorldCP-Asia was a central component of WorldCP, an online database of cultural policy profiles for countries worldwide, which allowed users to monitor and analyse global trends in arts and cultural policy. WorldCP was launched in 2011 by the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA) as a tool for policy makers, researchers, advocates and the global community. The programme was closed in 2017 when the Federation revised its programmes in line with the needs of its members.

WorldCP profiles follow the structure developed between 1998 and 2017 by the Council of Europe and the ERICarts Institute for the Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe. The Compendium, now run by a membership association, continues to publish current information for countries in Europe at culturalpolicies.netIn 2015, WorldCP was acknowledged by UNESCO as a useful information and monitoring system to analyse global trends in key aspects of cultural policies from around the world.

In Asia, IFACCA partnered with the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), which served as the Regional Secretariat for WorldCP-Asia from 2011 to 2017. Six cultural policy profiles were commissioned for countries in Asia:

  • India
  • Mongolia in partnership with the Arts Council of Mongolia and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science
  • Philippines in partnership with National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)
  • Singapore in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth
  • South Korea in partnership with the Arts Council of Korea (ARKO), the Korean National Commission for UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
  • Viet Nam in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Authors and partners gathered for meetings in:

  • Wroclaw, Poland (in 2015, alongside the 14th Assembly of the Experts of the Council of Europe/ERICarts Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe)
  • Hanoi, Viet Nam (in 2013, alongside the 6th ASEF Experts’ Meeting & Public Forum: Creative Economy in Asia and Europe – Emerging Pillar of Economic Growth & Development)
  • Melbourne, Australia (in 2011, alongside the 5th World Summit on Arts and Culture)
  • Seoul, Republic of Korea (2011)
