The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and On the Move jointly presented for the first time, the Mobility Funding Guides for International Cultural Exchange in 49 countries of Asia and Europe in 2014. In addition to the 3rd edition of the Mapping of Funding Opportunities for International Cultural Exchange in Asia, which presented mobility funding resources for 19 Asian countries in 2012, we also introduced the updated guides for 27 countries of the European Union, as well as Norway, Switzerland and the Russian Federation.
In 2016, two new guides for Croatia and Kazakhstan have also been published bringing the overall mobility funding guides to 51 countries of Asia and Europe.
These guides follow the methodology used in the online ‘Guide for International Funding Opportunities for the Mobility of European artists and culture professionals’, produced in 2011 by the Interarts Foundation, On The Move within the scope of the EU funded project PRACTICS.
In addition to these 51 country-specific guides, a guide with a Focus on Asia and a guide open to any nationality will also be available for free download on ASEF’s culture360 and OTM’s websites.
Since 2012, ASEF and OTM have worked together with the cultural sector and other partner organisations to promote access to information on mobility for artists and cultural professionals in Asia and Europe. These Guides were compiled in response to recommendations of ASEM Cultural Ministers, which were reinforced at the last 6th ASEM Culture Ministers’ Meeting (October 2014 in the Netherlands).
The international approach of the mobility funding guides is crucial as it positions the discussion on the funding of cultural mobility in a global perspective in order to better respond to local needs and interests from the cultural sector.
