Considering the importance of the Asian and European region in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement, it is necessary to determine how these regions work together to address climate change while ensuring sustainable development. In the case of Southeast Asia, for example, the development of a consistent plan of promoting low carbon development in the region is important. In this context, promoting low carbon technologies, securing necessary financing recourses and utilising Article 6 of the Paris Agreement are among those which need to be addressed. It is also important to share advanced experiences of other regions such as Europe as it will help Asia to better determine plans for themselves while learning lessons from other regions.
Furthermore, a sharing platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences may benefit both regions. Practical experiences by related organisations such as the Green Climate Fund, the Global Green Growth Institute may also add additional advantages.
The Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum), the Center for Climate and Sustainable Development Law and Policy (CSDLAP) and United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) aimed to contribute to this cooperation by providing a platform to strengthen knowledge exchange among officials, experts and businesses from Asia and Europe under the framework of the Paris Agreement.
