The Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) has recently concluded its side event entitled “Asia-Europe Cooperation on Low Carbon Development” at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP24, which happened in Katowice, Poland on 10 December 2018.

The panel moderated by Ms Grazyna PULAWSKA, Senior Project Manager from Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) featured Mr Kilaparti RAMAKRISHNA, Head of Strategy and Planning of Green Climate Fund (GCF); Ms Angela FALCONER, Associate Director of Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) London Office; Ms Melissa LOW, Research Fellow from Energy Studies Institute (ESI); and Prof. Suh-Yong CHUNG, Director of Centre for Climate and Sustainable Development Law and Policy (CSDLAP) and Professor from Korea University. The session explored innovative practices from Asia and Europe and opportunities for cooperation in promoting low carbon technologies, securing financing resources and utilising Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It concluded with a consensus from all panellists that while individual commitment is a good starting point, multi-stakeholder collaboration and mutual learning is necessary to go further.

COP24 is the informal name for the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme body of the UNFCCC Convention. It consists of the representatives of the Parties to the Convention. It holds its sessions every year. The COP takes decisions which are necessary to ensure the effective implementation of the provisions of the Convention and regularly reviews the implementation of these provisions. COP24 took place from 2-14 December 2018, in Katowice, Poland.

The side event was co-organised by ENVforum, CSDLAP and United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD).
