OVERVIEW
The AEH Thematic Network On Human Security organised its Annual Conference on the theme “Global Warming And Climate Change,” to introduce Asian and European perspectives on pressing issues related to world global development and security. Experts and researchers from ASEM countries came together for a shared reflection and to discuss risk perceptions on climate change.
This meeting was a follow-up to the group’s “Energy Security” discussions in 2007. Global warming and climate change have become not only a fundamental issue in economic and political relations between states and groups of states, but also a priority issue for human security. The reflections and discussions also provided material for the next conference in 2009 on “Migration And Human Security,” taking into account the projections of the importance of environmental refugees. The reflection papers are available on the AEH portal and highlights of the conference have been published.
At the sidelines of the Annual Conference, the network held its Annual Partners’ Co-ordination Meeting to discuss plans for the coming year.
