ASEF Higher Education Programme (AHEP)

Overview

Education stakeholders from ASEM countries have, at various meetings, highlighted the benefits of cross-regional exchanges and co-operation in higher education. Several initiatives to promote inter-regional educational exchanges have since been developed under the ASEM dialogue process, and in 1998, the ASEF Higher Education Programme was established at the 2nd ASEM Summit held in London.

Project Series in this Programme

The ASEF Regional Conference for Higher Education (ARC) is recognised as the Official Dialogue Partner of the ASEM Education Ministers’ Meetings (ASEMME). Through comparative studies, policy mapping as well as policy recommendations, ASEF’s projects in higher education inform ASEM education policy makers and feed into the agenda and deliberations of ASEM Education Ministerial Meetings. In addition, personal meetings between ARC participants, coming from civil society, and ASEM Education Ministers and Ministry representatives alongside ASEMMEs complement the active exchange of views and interactions.

The ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory (ASEFInnoLab) creates opportunities for higher education managers from Asia and Europe to meet, learn from each other, and build capacity to address common global challenges together. The theme of ASEFInnoLabs are tackling digitalisation and innovation challenges in higher education and empower participants to transform and modernise their higher education institutions by introducing tech savvy, inclusive and sustainable policies.
