The Core Competences Workshop was held to encourage the discussion of the nature and operation of human competences from a perspective of a learning society. Core competences required for individual learners — such as analytic, dialogic, cultural, and global/multi-cultural competences — were analysed in Asian and European contexts. Participants also proposed alternative ways in which schools and adult education systems could be organised and restructured in future learning societies.
