OVERVIEW
The second edition of the ASEM Conference gathered ministers and high-level officials responsible for education from 35 countries in Asia and Europe.
The ASEF was one of the few international organisations represented at the conference, with a delegation headed by its Executive Director, Ambassador Dominique Girard. The Education Ministers acknowledged the ASEF’s contributions in facilitating exchange in the field of higher education, particularly among ASEM governments, university leaders, researchers, teachers, and students.
In addition, the Foundation’s ASEM Rectors’ Conference was recognised as a dialogue partner of the ASEM Education Ministerial process, representing higher education stakeholders from ASEM countries.
During the conference, participants agreed to set up three Asia-Europe pilot groups of experts in the field of credits and learning outcomes, joint degrees, and quality assurance. Further, Germany offered to establish the first rotating ASEM Education Secretariat for four years, to assist in the co-ordination and continuity of the ASEM education process, as well as to facilitate the implementation of education initiatives in ASEM countries.
