OVERVIEW

The 7th Asia-Europe Art Camp was a year-long programme run in two phases; it brought together 18 Asian and European visual artists who were selected through an open call for applications.

In the first phase, the artistsmet in Luxembourg for a two-week residency programme at Casino Luxembourg. The residencyincluded workshops, lectures, discussions, and the production of individual and collaborativeworks. Public lectures organised included “Alterities Of Non-Human Being” by French philosopher Bernard Stiegler and “Displaying Immaterial Culture” byFrançoise Vergès, Scientific and Cultural Director of the upcoming museum Maison des civilisations et de l’unité réunionnaise, Reunion Island, France. The lecturers also interacted with the artists in group and individual sessions.

A team of renowned artists and curators — comprising Sylvie Bloucher (France), Paul de Felice (Luxembourg), and Binghui Huangfu (China) — facilitated the process. Under their mentorship, participants engaged in art-making and fieldwork around the “Moved, Mutated And Disturbed Identities” theme, towards an exhibition of works-in-progress at Casino Luxembourg — Forum d’art contemporain.

The second phase of the art camp involved a two-week residency in Shanghai, and concluded with the presentation of the artworks at a public exhibition and a showcase at the Luxembourg Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo 2010. Following this, a publication was created to document the workshop themes, discussions, and artists.
