The adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) marked a significant turning point in the global development framework. Now, more than ever, international cooperation and strong partnerships will be central to the success of the development agenda. The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) contributed to this global effort by bridging Asian and European perspectives in sustainable development through a conference on SDGs entitled, “Sustainable Development Goals for Asia and Europe: Delivery Options for Agenda 2030.”
This conference was jointly organised by ASEF and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), and was supported by the Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) consortium. The conference took place on 19-20 October 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden and gathered policy-makers and development experts from Asia and Europe involved in the SDGs process. The conference contributed to national preparations for SDG implementation and monitoring, as well as supporting multi-stakeholder, regional and international dialogue and knowledge exchange on mainstreaming the SDGs into national development planning.
The conference used participatory methods to achieve its objectives and build on active involvement and expert input. The conference included guidance presentations on SDGs implementation and monitoring, formal country presentations by representatives from Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) member states on their experience in implementing SDGs, as well as plenary discussions on various aspects of SDG implementation.
