After the series of scenario development workshops in 2010, the ASEF Public Health Network introduced a new set of workshops this year. These workshops are being organised to design multi-sector strategies for pandemic preparedness across Asia and Europe. Through these workshops ASEF is involving partners from various sectors including representatives from international organisations, governments, business sector and non-for-profit organisations.
First Strategy Development Workshop
The first strategy development workshop was held on 9-10 June in Bangkok, Thailand. Key institutions working on issues such as health, energy and water, and food were invited to develop multi-sector as well as sector-specific pandemic preparedness strategies based on the ASEF-ASAP scenarios. There were about 20 participants from the UN organisations, the media, international donor agencies, corporations and civil society organisations to name a few. According to many participants, it was an interactive and enriching experience that opened a new range of possibilities to be explored to prepare for pandemics or any public health emergencies.
The key findings and recommendations from workshop will be shared in a public event on 13 June 2011 in Bangkok. For more details please click here.
