Recalibrating the Compass | Rethinking International Cultural Cooperation in times of global crisis is a roundtable organised online on 27 September (6-7.30pm SGT) by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in partnership with the Australia Council for the Arts and Transit Projectes (Spain). This roundtable is an official side event of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022 (28-30 September 2022, Mexico City).
This discussion will gather 6 speakers from the arts and culture sectors of Asia and Europe to reflect and deliberate around these questions:
- Given the impact of the pandemic and the current evolving geopolitical context, is it time to rethink cultural cooperation?
- The pandemic has seen a shift from an external oriented approach to an inward-looking one in arts and cultural practices. What role can arts organisations and cultural professionals play in this regard? How can we bring back the focus to transnational encounters beyond national narratives?
- Are the Global South and Global North increasingly disconnected? How can this be addressed by international cultural exchanges?
This roundtable is also part of the Recalibrating the Compass Roundtable Series, initiated by ASEF in May 2022 in celebration of its 25th Anniversary. The series aims to examine current challenges and identify ways to develop new, more relevant and resilient forms of support for Asia-Europe cultural collaboration. Ultimately, we will try to address how we can best support cultural cooperation from ASEF’s unique position as a bridge-builder between Asia and Europe.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the speakers and the link to the registration form.
