OVERVIEW
More than 150 people from 42 countries attended this meeting; the audience were mostly representatives from arts or cultural organisations or spaces that support artist-in-residence programmes. Individuals from foundations and cultural agencies were also in attendance.
The ASEF supported 26 delegates from Asia, sent invitations to foundations and cultural agencies in Asia and Europe, as well as provided advice and suggestions on programme development.
The event consisted mainly of working group sessions, including:
– Discussions on topics such as urban residencies and trans-border projects
– Special sessions at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien (visual arts) and Sophiensaele (Performing Arts)
– Six plenary sessions (Tools For Mobility, European Cultural Funding, Project Share, Panel With Foundations, Alternative Grant Making, Curating Differences)
– Cultural visits (Berlin Art Forum; Haus der Kultur der Welt, Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Sophiensaele, CO Berlin; Schloss Broellin; Officyna Szczecin, Poland)
Despite the limitations of time, participants acknowledged the relevance of the meeting and appreciated the opportunities to gain contacts, ideas, and new energy to further develop artist exchange programmes between Asia and Europe. A publication of the event was later released, featuring artists who took part in ASEF-supported residency programmes in Asia and Europe.
