The Pan Asian Film Festival titled “The City” screened promising works by young Asian filmmakers that best reflected the event’s city theme.
Held over 10 days, the festival took place at the ICA Cinema and Lux in London. Personalities in attendance included Iwai Shunji (Japan), Park Chul-soo (Korea), and Penek Patanaruang (Thailand). In addition to a retrospective showcase of films by veteran Korean director Kim Ki-young, a number of films from Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam were screened. These included Shunji Iwai’s “Swallowtail Butterfly,” Korean director Chang Yoon-hyun’s “The Contact,” Filipino director Marilou Diaz-Abaya’s “In The Navel Of The Sea,” and “The Long Journey” by Thai director Le Hoang.
