OVERVIEW

In this third edition of the Monsoon artist residency programme, whichtook place at the STUK Arts Centre in Leuven, eight dancers and choreographershad been split up into four Asian-European pairs for a virtual blind date prior to the start of the residency. They had engaged in an anonymous dialogue on dance using blogs on the ASEF’s arts and culture platform culture360.org, without revealing any culturally identifying information.

The teams then met for the first time at the residency, where each pair collaborated on a new work in the field of contemporary dance, multimedia art, and music. Their collaborative efforts were showcased as a work-in-progress on the last night of their residency, and viewed by an audience of over 200.

Katelijn Verstraete from the ASEF’s Cultural Exchange Department also gave a presentation in conjunction with the residency. Titled”Asia And Europe: Perception And Understanding,” she shared the ASEF’s experience in facilitating networking and collaborations between Asia and Europe with students and academics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Catholic University of Leuven).
