Underneath the scope of the Model ASEM series, a number of activities have taken place from 2022-2023.
The Model ASEM series aims to introduce young people to the world of international relations, Asia-Europe diplomacy and negotiation.
On this occasion, the following activities have been organized:
Asia-Europe Connectivity Massive Online Open Course (MOOC)
The Asia-Europe Connectivity Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) will be an introductory e-learning course on Asia-Europe Connectivity developed and hosted by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in collaboration with several Partners & Academic institutions. The MOOC will provide an overview of Asia-Europe Connectivity in its various dimensions, through the example of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF). The course will be launched in Spring 2023 and hosted on ASEF’s e-learning platform.

Soft-launch of the Asia-Europe Connectivity MOOC at the Young Indo-Pacific Forum (YIPF) 2022
In December 2022, ASEF soft-launched the Asia-Europe Connectivity MOOC at the Young Indo-Pacific Forum (YIPF) 2022. The Young Indo-Pacific Forum is an annual conference organised by the Student Think Tank for Europe-Asia Relations (STEAR), Polis180 & European Guanxi, with the aim to bring together Youth across Europe & the Indo-Pacific to promote a broader understanding of the EU’s interactions with the Indo-Pacific region, and to look ahead at the direction in which key relationships between the EU and Indo-Pacific states will develop. With this focus on multilateralism – the MOOC was presented to over 40 young people alongside a panel discussion on Youth in Multilateralism across Asia & Europe where they were joined by Ioannis Giogarakis-Argyropoulos (Head of Division for Regional Affairs, EEAS; EU Governor for ASEF), Joses Wong (Secretary-General, ASEAN-EU Chamber of Commerce), and Juan Rayon (President of the Erasmus Student Network).
Young Indo-Pacific Forum 2022 focused on ‘Hybrid Threats’ – Youth Perspectives and Narratives, and welcomed 40 young participants to Brussels, Belgium. YIPF2022 contributed to the EU-ASEAN Youth Summit, held alongside the EU-ASEAN Commemorative Summit 2022.
Besides organising the soft-launch of the Asia-Europe Connectivity MOOC, ASEF was also a key organising partner for this event – more can be read about our engagement here.
