The ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN, AISBL) teamed up with one of Europe’s most prestigious political studies institutions, the Europe-Asia Campus of Sciences Po Paris in Le Havre, France, to organise its acclaimed Model ASEM Conference, building up on the success from the 2008 edition organised in Beijing, China. A four-day long political simulation of an actual Asia-Europe Meeting, the purpose of the model was to get a greater understanding of the ASEM process, its structure and political process and to contribute to create a greater understanding between the people from Europe and Asia. The overall topic of the conference was “Europe and Asia: Where Will They Meet?”
For the first time since its first edition in Singapore back in 2004, senior high school students – and not university students – were invited to attend the Model ASEM Conference. The meeting gathered nearly 60 students from all around Europe and Asia, with over 15 different nationalities represented. The final statement that was agreed upon all delegates elaborates on some of the discussions that were carried out during the conference, while offering clear initiatives on various issues – acting as a true voice of the ASEM youth.
