OVERVIEW

The Mini Summit on New Media Art Policy and Practice, held in partnership with International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA 2008), gathered 54 artists, researchers, and policy makers from 26 countries in [location] to develop an overview of the key issues impacting new media arts practice and to create a policy framework and key points for action.

The group represented 10 Asian countries, 12 European countries and four observer countries. About 15 per cent of the delegates were from government agencies. The public was also invited to the presentations conducted by the participating artists.

The Summit addressed the following crucial topics:

  • Ambient intelligence
  • Location-based media
  • Iterative design cycles
  • Academic research and creative communities
  • Open source and open networks
  • The role of independent new media labs
  • Media education
  • The relationship between media and civil society

The report collating the process and proceedings of the summit and the policy recommendations is now available for download. It highlights current needs in local and transnational media arts practices and frames more informed arts policies.
