The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and Fondazione ISMU, with the support of Milan Municipality, co-hosted a Public Event ‘Health of Chinese and Filipino Migrants in Milan: Present Challenges Potential Opportunities’ on Wednesday 9 October 2013 in Palazzo Sormani – Sala del Grechetto.

International migration is one of the most important issues of the global policy agenda. The ASEF Public Health Network’s research initiative on health and migration aims to contribute to policy development process and to implementation of evidence-based policies and programmes across Asia and Europe. As part of this endeavour, the ASEF Public Health Network launched the 1st Joint Research on Regional Integration and Public Health in 2011. The research study by the Yuchengco Center (The Philippines) and Fondazione ISMU (Italy) on The Health Dimension of Asian Migration to Europe” presented comprehensive data on health status of Chinese and Filipino migrants in Italy and Spain. It also put forward some recommendations to integrate their needs into the policies of receiving countries.

At this public event, research findings were presented, and this was followed by a panel discussion with practitioners from some local authorities. They discussed the varying contexts and approaches to addressing migration health issues.

On the following day, a session was organised at Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, where young researchers and students would hear from ASEF representatives and researchers from Fondazione ISMU about the ASEF-supported cross-regional researches on health and migration, sustainable development as well as perception studies of Asia and Europe.
