OVERVIEW
This conference was held to develop concrete migration proposals to the ASEM Ministers of Home Affairs during their meeting in Lanzarote, Spain. The conference addressed the following topics:
– Migration flows
– Migration communities
– Integration and citizenship
– Public policy towards residents and refugees
– Policy recommendations
At the ASEM meeting in Lanzarote, ASEM members pledged co-operation in tackling illegal migration from Asia to Europe. They also agreed that illegal migrations were mostly economics driven, as well as due to political instability and social unrest in the Southeast Asian region.
