OVERVIEW
The Expert Meeting on New Media, Civil Society and Environmental Sustainability took place in conjunction with the Nu-Substance Festival of Open Culture, Technology and Urban Ecology.
It brought together seven new media professionals from Asia and Europe who helped formulate strategies and policy recommendations related to environmental sustainability and the empowerment of civil society actors in the field of new media.
The meeting encouraged the exchange of knowledge and experiences between new media experts and organisations in the two regions and increased awareness of the role of this creative sector in contemporary society. The five-day programme included open discussions, site visits, and public presentations at leading cultural centres in Bandung, Indonesia.
The Nu-Substance Festival 2010, which was held in Bandung from 9 July to 1 August, is a platform for research and creative experimentation that aims to encourage collaborative practice in the fields of new media arts and digital culture. It is a recognised new media forum and an important gathering of experts in the region.
