OVERVIEW

The ENVForum 2010 Conference took a multi-sectoral approach to the sustainable management of natural resources. It incorporated green economy, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and environmental governance perspectives to investigate current paths of development and their sustainability. This allowed it to fill the gaps of current development trends and formulate approaches for a sustainable future.

Thirteen workshops jointly hosted by partner organisations in Asia and Europe were held within the framework of the event. Approximately 150 experts in the areas of sustainability, development, and the environment from ASEM countries attended the event. They represented the government, civil society, and the business sector.

THE ISSUES

In this conference, key issues included exploring the links between biodiversity, ecosystem services, and climate change, in order to determine how actions can be set in motion.

The significance of regional and multilateral initiatives, including the role of institutions both within the political community as well as among civil society organisations, was another key issue.

Moreover, the conference aimed to incentivise countries in the two regions to intensify policy dialogue across local, national, regional, and bi-regional levels. This included a focus on environmental education in sustainable development, and effective approaches and tools for participatory environmental decision making.
