OVERVIEW

This presentation saw ASEMUS detailing its achievements in the last four years and announcing its plans for the future. The event took place during the 20th General Conference and 21st General Assembly of The International Council of Museums (ICOM) and attracted ICOM members from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

ASEMUS Chairperson Steven Englesman (Director, National Museum of Leiden, Netherlands) provided an overview on ASEMUS and its relationship with the ASEF. Chulamanee Chartsuwan, then-ASEF Cultural Exchange Director, supported Englesman’s presentation by providing inputs on ASEF and ASEMUS. Following which, Karl Magnusson (National Museums of World Culture, Sweden) discussed the chronology of events of the network.

An 11-minute video on the Museum Hopping event was aired to summarise the activities of ASEMUS and to introduce eight pilot projects. The co-ordinators for the Travelling Exhibition (Brian Durrans, British Museum, UK) and Museum Education (Michael Ryan, Chester Beatty Library, Ireland) projects were also present to provide project development updates.
