On 30 May 2018, ASEF Unplugged: Conversations on the Arts in Asia and Europe, a new event series was held in Prague with a special focus on the Czech Republic. ASEF Unplugged gathered over 50 artists, arts managers and curators for an afternoon of discussion on international cultural projects between the Czech Republic and Asia. Organised in partnership with the Arts & Theatre Institute, Czech Republic, the session was held at the Prague Creative Centre, a creative laboratory in the heart of the city.

The session started off with a presentation by Ms Martina PECKOVA-CERNA, Head – International Relations and PR Department, Arts & Theatre Institute, giving an overview about the arts scene in the Czech Republic and highlighting the main international cultural co-operation projects. One of the key insights offered by this presentation was that China, Japan and the Republic of Korea are the most engaged countries with the Czech Republic, with co-operation projects taking place in music, theatre, contemporary dance, visual arts and cinema.

The next segment featured a presentation on what ASEF has to offer to cultural professionals from the Czech Republic, such as access to information about the arts from Asia & Europe, culture360.ASEF.org and ASEF’s travel grant for artists from Asia & Europe, Mobility First!. This was followed by a vibrant and interactive discussion session with the audience. Most of the audience members were interested in the Mobility First! travel grant which could enable them to pursue their visit to Asia for artist residencies, arts festivals and scouting trips.

This meet-and-greet session offered a valuable and informal space for open, authentic and peer-to-peer conversations.
