The development of, and access to, life-long learning (LLL) opportunities during the education process are essential at work and all spheres of social life, given the demographic, socio-economic and technological changes across Asia and Europe. The ASEF Education Policy Conference Series 2017 brings together researchers, university leaders, government officials, representatives of international organisations, non-governmental organisations, businesses and industry to discuss lifelong learning issues of Asia and Europe.
In 2017, ASEF will support 3 research meetings/conferences initiated by the ASEM LLL Hub on the following subjects:
- 1st International Conference of European and Asian Researchers and Educators on Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development (I-CEARE 2017), “Universities and Communities in Asia and Europe: Creating Meaning for Sustainable Development”, 12-14 May 2017, Boracay Island, the Philippines
- Research Conference by the ASEM Education and Research Hub for Lifelong Learning (ASEM LLL Hub) on “Theory Meets Practice: Enhancing Teacher Training in the Digital Era“, 4-8 September 2017, Switzerland
- Research meeting “Lifelong learning – Resilience for vulnerable groups” – December 2017, Portugal (tbc)
These research/meetings conferences will stimulate dialogue, and produce evidence-based policy recommendations for the ASEM Education Process, as well as quality inputs for various academic publications on LLL.
The ASEF Education Policy Conference Series 2017 will also:
-
Supply expert opinions and suggestions to the 6th and 7th ASEM Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM ME6, November 2017 , Seoul Korea and ASEM ME7, 2019, Europe)
-
Create positive synergies with existing ASEF education projects for a wider promotion and outreach, for example the 6th ASEF Rectors’ Conference and Students’ Forum (ARC6).
-
Strengthen the existing LLL network between Asia and Europe, and expand it by attracting new members and partners, including from business and industry
-
Promote the importance of LLL as part of SDG4 across the ASEM constituency and provide good practices with proposals for their wider implementation
