OVERVIEW
The ASEF awarded Cultural Grants to three young film directors, thus allowing them to present their films at the inaugural Asian Film Festival in Paris. The film directors were:
– Jasmine Ng, Singapore, “Eating Air”
– Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, Thailand, “Monrak Transistor”
– Kim Jee Woon, Korea, film retrospective including “A Tale Of Two Sisters” and “The Quiet Family”
With the co-operation of the Asian Film Festival Paris Committee, a special roundtable discussion with the directors of the Asian Film Festival was organised. This discussion emphasised the need for increased Asia-Europe co-operation to face the increasing competition among film festivals.
