OVERVIEW
Several young Asians were selected to participate in the project titled “UTOPIA STATION” at the La Biennale di Venezia, under the ASEF Cultural Grants programme. The artists were:
– Shimabuku, Japan
– Yang Fudong, China
– Ma Qingyun, China
– Kamin Lertchaiprasert, Thailand
– Wong Hoy Cheong, Malaysia
– TUK, Indonesia
Apart from showing their work, these artists were also invited to participate in a panel discussion during the opening of the exhibition.
The “UTOPIA STATION” exhibition was held at the Arsenale Area of the Venice Biennale. It was inspired by the project “The Land,” which was initiated in 2001 by a group of Thai artists. Since then, artists from all over the world have travelled to “The Land” to exchange ideas and realise projects. Thus “UTOPIA STATION” featured architectural and other “utopian” projects that were developed at “The Land.”
