| Bridges over Borders |
“Bridges over Borders” is an online collaboration undertaken to trace the diversity of national diasporas and find elements of it locally. Students collect information about artefacts in their city (country), connected with partner countries and present them as short articles and video clips which are eventually placed on an interactive world map. Thus, by clicking on a specific country we can trace its intercultural links. Participating students and teachers will benefit by responding to challenges, presenting their work, being innovative, being inspired by others, interacting with eachother, sharing, exchanging outcomes, learning from others’ cultures. Participants will learn to communicate no matter how different their origins are, or how differently they have been brought up or educated so far. The utmost goal is to instil tolerance, foster communication and turn participants into active citizens of a globalised world, while strenghtening their intercultural skills and multiple interlligence. | Celebrating Diversity
|
“Celebrating Diversity” is an online collaboration project where participants would introduce the beauty of diversity to all participating schools by reviewing the history of the region, recipes (preferably those from grandmothers) natural beauty of places, local culture of its people including the “sayings” being translated into English folk music and dancing. Gatherings would be shared on a website and communication would be carried out by blogging and discussion would be supported by setting up a Facebook group. At the end, participants vote for the best/funniest/most interesting blog: (1) video (2) text and (3) photo among all participants and would organise a small meeting with participants who wish to, here in Rožnava, meet and see something and present the culture of participants – visitors. Details about this proposed visit will be a subject of later discussion. | Culture through my Lens – Level 2 |
“Culture through my Lens” is an online collaborations project that aims to help students see diverse cultures through their camera lens, capturing and sharing with their peers. This will help to create an entirely new class of imaging platform that has an understanding of the world. Students will enjoy exploring the culture of their own country as well as of other countries across the borders through still pictures captured on different themes assigned. For instance, pictures of a dance performance or a wedding in the local community, clicked and shared by the students of a country would not only highlight their art of observation but would also be an enriching experience for others. | Grandma’s Kitchen – A Global Recipe Book |
“Grandma’s Kitchen” is an Online Collaboration where students create an online recipe book which is a collection of traditional recipes contributed by the students of Asian and European schools. Through this Online Collaboration, the students will bond with their grandparents while learning about the traditional food cooked at home. They will compile the authentic recipes of these popular dishes and also explore the cultural positioning of each dish. The participating students will cook these cuisines in their kitchen and share the pictures and recipes with other members online. The participating schools will be assigned to groups comprising Asian and European schools. Member students of the group will interact with one another and cook traditional dishes belonging to each other’s country. Pictures and videos of collaboration will be shared on a common platform. | KWARTET! A Card Game for Four #2 |
In “Kwartet! A Card Game for Four”, students dive into the culture of another country and develop a Kwartet game in the language of the country they selected. Their peers from the other country need to identify the relevant cultural aspects and the correct words. The students decide together on the 9 themes that are addressed in the cards. For each of these themes they pick 4 common and popular objects. The participating students will learn about a new language and culture in a fun and interactive way. This was an original version and this time KWARTET! will open to historical card game. The students pick different eras or times of the country and they pick 4 common and popular objects. The students will introduce themselves and share their ideas on Facebook as this project’s platform. If required, the students may also use the video chat (e.g. Skype) to interact with each other. | The Bridge – Connecting Two Things or More! |
In “The Bridge – Connecting Two Things or More!”, students dive into the historical connections and cultures of own and other countries and develop an understanding about them. There are many reasons, histories, and backgrounds behind the bridges around you. For example, people wanted to communicate people over the river but there was no way to across it, so people thought hard to connect two lands divided by a river. Find a bridge that attract your group to research and at the end you can create the bridge by any method you want to use, for example, Minecraft, 3D printer, LEGO, chopsticks, stones, etc. In this project, students introduce themselves and share their local, historical, or famous bridges on Facebook as this project’s platform. “The STONE – it’s the start of culture” is an online collaboration where students dive into historical connections and cultures of their own and other countries through stone. The project aims to ways through which stone was used e.g. historical buildings. Students can then research and create imitations through Minecraft, 3D printer, LEGO, chopsticks, stones, etc. Participating students have the opportunity to introduce themselves and share their local, historical, or famous uses of stone on Facebook. | Let’s Travel, The Backpackers |
“Let’s Travel, The Backpackers” is an online collaboration that creates a backpacker trip itinerary in both Asia and Europe for 7 days in each country. The project aims to collaborate 10 schools from Asia and Europe. The members of the project will collaborate to plan a trip for backpackers in their countries for 7 days. The plan will include routes, modes of transportation, hotels, must visit places, local cuisine and the art to enjoy. The project will culminate with a guide book for Backpackers in 70 days from Asia to Europe. The participating students will contribute to the project by planning 7 days backpacking trip in their countries. Other than obtaining a better understanding of other countries, the participants will be able to create new networks between schools in Asia and Europe while exchanging good practices in teaching and learning. | Asia-Europe Cultural Heritage Games |
The “Asia-Europe Cultural Heritage Games” is an online collaboration by Copernicus-Upper Secondary School in Poland. The collaboration focusses on using the pedagogical method of gamification to explore topics such as geography, history, literature, art, music, sport, traditions, etc, subsequently sharing them with partners from other countries. Participating students will take part in debates presenting opinions, exchanging information and conducting polls on FB discussions and Tricider chats. The project will culminate with all participants will taking part in the online ‘Asia-Europe Cultural Heritage Games’. The highlight of the collaboration is that it provides students an opportunity to see how various dimensions of cultural heritages are similar, yet different across Asia and Europe. While allowing teachers and students to learn how to use various web tools in project work and experience how gamification can strengthen learning effectiveness. “The ARCTIC” is a project where students collaborate to create a website they can post their personal blogs, vlogs, pictures, researches pertaining to global awareness in climate change. This project shall provide students the opportunity to collaborate and to propose plausible solutions to combat this global issue. | Trivia for the Travelers |
“Trivia for Travellers” is an online collaboration project where students showcase their own country’s facts and knowledge from their very own local perspective. The project aims to stimulate pupils’ creativity, build communication skills and encourage teamwork through video production, based on students’ point of view, and also providing them the opportunity to showcase interesting trivia and facts about their country that will be appealing to international partners – be it of touristic value or for novel knowledge. This helps them recognize places in our own country that would be feature-worthy to our international partners – such as places of interest, famous landmarks, iconic architectural buildings or structures while allowing them to use basic video-editing applications to present a set of footages and information to appeal to prospective local and international audience. “The World is a Classroom” is an online collaboration project where students collaborate with global peers to describe their life and to show how they live their daily lives. They share information on how each day they learn a new lesson, both in the classroom as well as outside. By participating in the project, students will detect similarities and differences in their lives and learn to respect others. Students learn about how each moment, each day, they learn something or the other from people not only in their locality, but also around the world by interacting with school students and teachers from other countries. Students will be encouraged to use their creativity to showcase their learning to the rest of the world. “Gender Inequality: Empowering Women” is an online collaboration projects which aims to create awareness among students and teachers on gender inequality and to explore the channels available for female empowerment. The project further aims to inspire students to appreciate the key issues surrounding gender equality through online discussions with the aid of ICT tools, improve their communication skills and allow them to gain insight into each other’s cultures. Furthermore, the tech-savvy students in the collaboration are introduced to online applications that enable them to unlock their creativity and collaborative skills. “Pets, Home Garden and Farm” is an online collaboration project that invites students and teachers from Asia and Europe to share information about pets, gardens and farms in their respective countries. The aim of this project is to increase knowledge and interest on how people take care of their pets, gardens and farms which include the usage of technology besides traditional and eco-friendly ways. The participants are encouraged to do research, collect information, paint and draw, as well as use ICT tools to create their dream garden. By joining this project, students learn how different cultures and climate bring the diversity of pets, gardens and farms in Asia and Europe. “Plastic Planet” is an online collaboration project aims to create awareness among students to understand the hazardous nature of plastic products and their harmful effects on the human body. Using digital media and other online platforms, participants are encouraged to investigate measures that can reduce and control plastic pollution. The project also emphasises on increased recycling capacity, strategies to minimise littering and considers the challenges of plastic waste management. “Project GIFT – Green is For Tomorrow” is an online collaboration project conducted to help students gain insight and subsequently conduct class/school-wide campaigns and videos to raise awareness. Students research and analyse waste management techniques implemented within their own countries as well as from schools in another country if they already have environmentally friendly solutions in place which they can implement in their respective schools. This allows them to make a commitment to keep their respective schools clean and create awareness on upcycling as well as harness ICT skills such as doing research online, photo editing, video editing and coming up with online posters. “Rivers- An Elixir of Life 2-The Rills flow” is an online collaboration project which is an extension of a previous project – Rivers-An elixir of life. The project is to discuss and create awareness about the life of people who live near the rivers. It would give an opportunity to students and teachers to understand and appreciate the role of rivers in creating diverse cultures, food habits, occupations, festivals and source of navigation in the life of people around the globe. The aim of the project would be to sensitize the participants to the importance of rivers in our life, and how man is destroying them for his ulterior motives, showcasing the ill effects of polluted rivers on mankind and the health hazards caused. In due course, the project will also highlight how conservation is the need of the hour, and what kind of strategies could be adopted to enable sustainable development. “The ’SDGs in Action Heroes’ is an upgraded version of the heroes project. The online collaboration provides opportunities for students to engage in collaborative learning tasks which requires them to research and promote the Sustainable Development Goals as well as get inspired by global, national and local leaders who drive forward sustainable solutions. Students will connect with each other via a Google classroom. They will elaborate on heroism and create multimedia presentations on their chosen SDGs and subsequently design and carry out an SDG project/SDG action. The vision of the collaboration is to see youth in the participating schools in Asia and Europe get actively engaged in shaping a more inclusive, peaceful and sustainable world by taking action in global educational outreach campaigns and service projects. “Healthy Living” is an online collaboration project that aims to raise awareness to choose appropriate foods, incorporate regular physical activities in our daily routine and practice good hygiene. In this modern world, especially students and professionals are constantly engaged with disruptive social media and digital technologies, neglecting taking care of their health. One of the goals of sustainable development adopted by United Nations is to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages. The primary aims of this project are to create intuitive awareness among the participants about healthy living, promote physical exercises in day to day life, realise the significance of the choice of healthy foods and importance of mental health. Participants will also learn appropriate ICT skills to interact with each other on online platforms and understand the importance of working with others in partnership. | Great Minds in STEM, Bridging the Gap |
“Great Minds in STEM, Bridging the Gap” is an online collaboration project conducted by Spechtrum School in Belgium and SMK Jeram in Malaysia. The project provides an opportunity for students from Asia and Europe to share the application of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in schools. Rather than to teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world issues. The project aims to discuss STEM-professions in different countries during the collaboration. Bridging the gap of gender in STEM is also a point to be highlighted that enable the participants to identify any differences based on different cultures of Asia and Europe. The students will decide on a project based on STEM and share it among their peers by producing video, articles or graphics and publish it through multi-media platforms. After which, the videos and articles will be compiled on BlogSpot or a website that will be shared with the extended community and public. Read more…
