OVERVIEW
This conference brought together 92 youth representatives from 34 countries and international organisations for the following objectives:
– Compile an inventory of initiatives to expand Asia-Europe youth co-operation in priority areas
– Brainstorm on new ways to strengthen youth co-operation under the ASEM framework
– Identify new areas of co-operation that could be taken up at the next ASEM Summit
After an exchange of views, participants reached a consensus that was reflected in the Tianjin Declaration. The declaration aimed to seek support for the further development of youth co-operation between Asia and Europe, and was later submitted together with a report to ASEM leaders during the 6th Asia-Europe Summit in Helsinki, Finland, in September 2006.
