OVERVIEW
For the fifth instalment of ASEF University, 28 undergraduates from 24 ASEM member countries convened for intellectual and cultural interaction at the historic Convento da Arrabida.
The group consisted of social and political science students, economics students, law students, as well as geography and history students. They underwent an intensive programme of lectures and panel discussions focusing the following aspects of global conflict:
– Economic conflict
– Social conflict
– Political conflict
– Ethnic and cultural conflict
With the help of the guest lecturers and panelists, participants also examined different models of regional and bi-regional efforts to overcome these conflicts.
The highlight of the programme was the cultural excursions. Participants toured Lisbon, took a day trip to the World Heritage City of Evora, and explored the Arrabida region. They also attended an evening concert at a Fado Traditional Music House, where they enjoyed a performance by Yutaro Nagao, an up-and-coming flamenco guitarist of Japanese descent.
