OVERVIEW
This meeting brought together 67 former ASEF University attendees from 20 ASEM member countries for discussions on how to strengthen the alumni network and new projects to promote Asia-Europe relations among youths.
ASEFUAN also took the opportunity to launch several projects, including:
– The simulation of a Model ASEM Summit, with the view to enhance the visibility of the ASEM process among students in both regions — this would later pave the way for a Model ASEM Summit in 2006, which was organised to coincide with the 6th ASEM Summit in Finland in the same year
– An online journal titled “Asia-Europe Voices,” targeted at young scholars and researchers focused on Asia-Europe relations
Following the discussions, President Laurent Frideres from Luxembourg and Singaporean Vice President Kelvin Teo, together with Executive Committee members Sarah Hempel (Demnark), Silke Aumann (Germany), Helen Chin (Korea), and Emma Park (Korea) pledged to carry forward the network’s mission and mandate into the next year.
