OVERVIEW
In this first instalment of the Asia-Europe Youth Camp, 67 young volunteers from Asia and Europe gathered to gain hands-on experience in issues relating to local deforestation, environmental protection, and national heritage conservation.
Held over two weeks, the camp involved volunteer work in projects that covered two areas: Environmental conservation and cultural heritage conservation. In the environmental segment of the camp, participants assisted in the Chinese government’s “Mother River Protection Action” initiative; this was a project that aimed to provide water and soil conservation fro more than 67,000 hectares of land in key ecological areas, as well as enhance sustainable development in the valley of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers.
During the cultural heritage segment of the camp, participants helped out with renovation projects of local heritage sites, as well as attended workshops and excursions to World Cultural Heritage sites.
