OVERVIEW
Seventy scholars, government officials, and non-government organisations from 20 ASEM countries attended this event. The main topics discussed were:
– Globalisation and regional responses
– Political and cultural aspects of globalisation
– Economic and social aspects of globalisation
– Globalisation and the ASEM process
The discussions generated a forthright and dynamic exchange of views, resulting in a new network of Asians and Europeans interested in the area of globalisation. It also encouraged the Asian and European participants to embark on a common search for solutions to some of the often-controversial areas connected to globalisation in Asian and European countries.
