The Training is a follow-up to the 18th Informal ASEM Seminar on “Human Rights and the Prevention of Violent Extremism”. Since 2017, the Training functions as a capacity building component on human rights to support the Seminar’s overall objective of promoting mutual understanding and co-operation on human rights issues in ASEM. This year’s capacity-building Training on “Human Rights & the Prevention of Violent Extremism” will take place on 17-20 September 2019 in New Delhi, India. The 3.5-day training programme mainly targets representatives from ASEM governments, ministries or departments; national and regional human rights institutions; civil society organisations and educators working in the field of human rights and/or the prevention of violent extremism (PVE).
The objectives of the Training are to increase participants’ knowledge on human rights and PVE in the context of Asia and Europe, as well as to enhance their capacity to develop measures to prevent violent extremism with respect to human rights. A particular focus will be laid on methods on how to implement the UN Secretary-General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism across local, regional and national levels. Furthermore, participants will obtain both theoretical and practical insights on how to apply a human-rights based approach to PVE in the context of ASEM/Asia-Europe relations.
