OVERVIEW

In this lecture, speaker IIze Brands Kehris discussed how migration for both humanitarian and economic reasons was accelerating the pace of demographic change in various countries. She also provided an analysis of policies tailored towards illegal and temporary migrants.

THE ISSUES

– How can governments better manage demographic changes, particularly with a focus on building social cohesion between new migrants and the existing populations?

– What are the differences that exist between the rights of new migrants vis-à-vis the rest of the population?
