The 14th Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights was held on 18-20 November 2014 in Hanoi, Viet Nam, on the topic ‘Human Rights and Businesses’.

With over 125 international representatives participating, the Seminar addressed the relationship between corporate responsibility and human rights protection within the ASEM framework and aims to develop recommendations to protect and strengthen human rights in relation to business activities.

Discussions took place in four closed-door Working Groups, each focusing on one of four topic areas:

WG1 – State Duty to Protect Human Rights Against Violations by Businesses

WG2 – Corporate Responsibility and its Contribution to Human Rights Implementation

WG3 – Monitoring, Reporting and Access to Remedies

WG4 – Multi-stakeholder cooperation

For a more detailed overview please see the seminar report.

This seminar series is co-organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (nominated by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, and the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.

ASEF has been the seminar secretariat since 2000.

The 14th Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Viet Nam.  Given the nature of the Seminar, participants were invited individually by the co-organisers; there was no open call for participation.
