The Asia-Europe Foundation together with its partners, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Regional Program in Singapore, the Institute of Foreign Affairs (Laos) and the Institute of Strategic and Development Studies (The Philippines) are co-organising the 14th East Asia – European Union Think Tank Dialogue on 12-13 September 2012 at the Hotel Plaza Laos in Vientiane.
Taking place only two months ahead of the 9th Summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the purpose of the 14th Think Tank Dialogue is to analyse the actual state of the ASEM process and the consequences of the EU debt crisis for bi-lateral cooperation between the two regions, especially on social development and cohesion programmes. The 9th ASEM Summit will take place in November in Vientiane.
Representatives from renowned Asian and European think tanks such as Chatham House, the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), the Institute of World Economics and Politics, Institut Français de Relations Internationals (IFRI) and United Nations University – Institute for Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS), will be presenting papers on the EU debt crisis and Asia-Europe Relations via the ASEM process.
Ambassador Sayakane Sisouvong, Permanent Secretary of Cabinet, Laos Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will deliver the keynote speech.
