Since its inception in 1998, the ASEF Journalists Seminar (ASEFJS) has been cultivating media representatives from Asia and Europe and involving them in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Process and ASEF’s activities. The Seminar promotes media networks across Asia and Europe, and contributes to the understanding of Asia-Europe relations among journalists and enhancement of their reporting and communication capacities. The ASEFJS organised biennially, offers an opportunity for journalists and media professionals from Asia and Europe to come together for informal closed-door sharing of experiences and discussion of their work on important issues of common concern.
The ASEFJS supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which seeks to “promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.” Target 16.10 aims to “ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements”.
