ASEF organised the 11th ASEF Classroom Network Conference (formerly known as the Asia-Europe Classroom Network AEC-NET)) in Bali, Indonesia from 28 October to 1 November 2013.  The conference is supported by the Provincial Office of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economic of Bali.  Themed “Creative Classrooms Go 4G: Teach Green, Learn Green, Act Green, Live Green“.  The objective of the conference was to encourage the integration of ICT, art and local culture in environmental education.

The conference was attended by 87 participants (including 6 student representatives and observers) from 31 countries.  Other than the insights shared by the invited speakers and experts, the participants also took part in the workshops that demonstrated the use of technology to enhance learning as well as the promotion of practical sustainability actions that can be introduced within and beyond the classrooms.

The project co-ordinators and student representatives from the six shortlisted projects were also invited to the conference.  They co-presented their projects and contended for the ASEF ClassNet Awards.  The Gold and Merit Awards were conferred to the following 2013 ASEF ClassNet project groups:

Gold Awards
*  Dream Tours
*  iMagz – Making Myself Heard
*  International Village – Thumbs Up for SketchUp!

Merit Awards
*  Chain Stories 2013

The Gold and Merit Award winners each received a cash prize of EUR 2,000 and EUR 500 respectively.  The prize may be used to further develop their project or to create new online collaborations.

38 ASEF ClassNet projects, covering the ASEF themes have also been submitted for 2014 where the teachers and students will start the implementation of these projects after the conference.

In this edition, the ASEF Green Action was integrated as part of the programme.  21 schools from 18 countries submitted entries for the ASEF Green Action Exhibition.  The teachers and student representatives also participated in the bag exchange activity conducted on 30 October 2013 in Pasar Badung, Denpasar.

Launched in 1998, the ASEF Classroom Network (ASEF ClassNet) is a programme conceptualised to enrich learning and teaching through the use of ICT among secondary and high schools in ASEM countries.  The objective of the ASEF ClassNet is to foster co-operation among secondary and high schools in ASEM countries with a view to promoting collaborative, cross-cultural learning and exchanges through the ASEF ClassNet Projects.
