OVERVIEW

The Asia-Europe Classroom Network Conference serves as a platform to gather secondary and high school educators in Asia and Europe to work on a common project (AEC Project) involving the schools, educators and students. By collaborating closely and pooling their resources, they will get to learn more about one another and about their views and perspectives on a broad spectrum of issues. These AEC projects enable the students involved to acquire new tools of learning and establish friendships with their counterparts in the other region. It also encourages better cultural understanding through these collaborations.

Launched in 1998, the Asia-Europe Classroom Network (AEC-NET) is a programme connecting secondary and high schools in ASEM countries.  It is a cyber-classroom shared by students and educators to build stronger bi-regional networks and partnerships through the use of Info-Communication Technology (ICT) for better understanding and intercultural dialogues.

The tenth edition of the conference took place from 7 – 11 November 2011 in collaboration with the County Louth Vocational Education Committee, and supported by the Department of Education and Skills.  The theme for the conference this year was “Apps in Asian and European Classrooms! Unleashing Educational Creativity”.  The conference aims to provide educators from Asia and Europe with hands-on experience of using emerging technologies to enhance and foster creativity in education.

The conference was attended by 113 attendees (including 6 student representatives) from 33 ASEM* countries.  A total of 39 AEC Projects were submitted this time which will be implemented by the teachers and students in Asia and Europe right after the conference.
