This ASEF Annual Report 2023 reflects ASEF’s activities during a year full of challenges and opportunities. In an ever-changing world facing geopolitical disruption, climate change, AI emergence and the spread of infectious diseases, ASEF has remained resilient. Despite the ASEM Process being on hold, ASEF continued its mission to foster closer ties between Asians and Europeans, adapting through rules-based management and a united, innovative approach.
ASEF strengthened its projects in intellectual, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, with notable achievements, such as the ASEF Young Leaders Summit in Spain in September 2023 and the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival in Singapore in October 2023. These initiatives reinforced ASEF’s commitment to advancing mutual understanding and building meaningful connections between the people of the two regions. In cooperation with the World Health Organisation, ASEF continued its on-the-ground support in Europe to provide aid to those in need. In November 2023, we forged a new partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, aiming to improve the readiness for the outbreak of infectious diseases in Asia.
Going forward, the ASEF Strategy is a commitment to resilience, adaptability and continued collaboration. The dynamic partnership between Asia and Europe is shifting towards a peer-to-peer model, emphasising shared responsibilities to tackle common challenges. We extend our deepest gratitude to our members, partners, and participants for their unwavering cooperation, trust and support.
