The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2015, has called for all countries in the world to mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their national agenda. To support policy-makers in this endeavour, ASEF will organise a workshop on 22 September 2016 in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. This event will be co-organised with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC) of Myanmar and Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF).
The workshop will explore matters related to the implementation of SDGs, including financing strategies, as well as inter-ministerial and cross-departmental cooperation. It will invite representatives from relevant ministries and organisations in Myanmar, international experts from Asia and Europe, and other experts and academics based in Myanmar working on sustainable development.
This workshop will support the efforts by government officials in Myanmar to localise the 17 SDGs into their national planning through an exchange of expert opinions and participatory working group discussions on mainstreaming SDGs. Expected presentations will be on SDGs’ implementation and financing, and updates on Myanmar’s transition from MDGs to SDGs.
This will also be an opportunity for the Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) to launch its latest publication “Implementation Guide for the Sustainable Development Goals” to engage with policy-makers. The final version of the publication will be released in September 2016.
