ASEF Deputy Executive Director Mr Karsten WARNECKE gave the opening remarks at the International Think Tanks Workshop “The Europe-Asia Meeting: Making Plans for a Pacific Century”, held in parallel with the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit on 16 October 2014 in Milan. The event presented an opportunity to discuss the role of think tanks in helping Asia and Europe work together for securing peace and stability.
The workshop took place alongside another ASEF project, namely the 7th ASEF Editors’ Roundtable “Asian and European Media in the Digital Age”. Participants in both events took the opportunity to meet and to further discuss the prospects of the Asia-Europe cooperation in the ASEF-ISPI (Italian Institute for International Political Studies) joint session: “Facing Asia-Europe Challenges: The Role of Media and New Communication Tools”.
The workshop was organised by ISPI in close cooperation with ASEF, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Representation of the European Commission in Italy. It gathered over 30 representatives of Asian and European think tanks and institutions to identify how Asia and Europe could complement their strategic priorities and strengths in the field of peace and food, energy, and water security.
