Recognising the outcomes of the 13th Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights: Human Rights and the Environment, which identified the growing need to better involve non-state actors in sustainable development, human rights and environment protection, the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) together with ECOSPHERE is organising a panel discussion on “The Role of Businesses in Protecting Environment and Human Rights” on Wednesday, 9 July 2014 in Brussels, Belgium.
This will provide a platform for discussion on Asian and European experiences involving the private sector in human rights and environment protection. The discussions will provide insights on how inter-regional co-operation can strengthen business engagement on such issues.
Panellists will address questions relating to the current challenges faced by companies in protecting the environment and human rights, and how to overcome such challenges. Intellectual exchanges will centre around measures to improve the co-operation between governments and the corporate sector. This will enable better human rights and environmental protection frameworks and help increase the private sector’s support to the post-2015 development agenda.
