The Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) recently participated in the ‘International Workshop on Strengthening Planning and Implementation Capacities for Sustainable Development in the Post-Rio+20 Context’ in Incheon, Republic of Korea (14-16 November 2012). The event was organised by the United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD).
The multi-folded objectives of the workshop were: sharing national as well as local experiences in implementing sustainable development; measuring the efficacy and suitability of existing knowledge and capacity building efforts; and creating opportunities to build partnerships in planning and implementation of sustainable development.
During the workshop, ASEF’s Project Executive in charge of the ENVforum, Ms Grazyna Pulawska, presented the findings of the research on ‘Sustainable Development Governance’. Through her presentation she elaborated on the Asia-Europe Strategies for the Earth Summit under the ENVforum framework. These strategies had culminated in the study ‘Global Architectures for Sustainable Development Delivery’, which was launched in the Rio+20 Summit earlier this year. Ms Pulawska also highlighted that the ENVforum is planning to launch a 3-year programme, which would support the dialogue on Sustainable Development Goals’ creation. The programme will conclude in 2015 alongside the completion of the Millennium Development Goals’ process.
