The UN Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) in Seoul, Korea organised a consultation meeting, “Expert Consultation on Knowledge and Capacity Needs for Sustainability Transition” (6-8 March). During the meeting, representatives of the Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) shared their experiences and expertise on capacity-building in relation to the latest debates on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) creation.
More than 100 experts, including 50 delegations from developing countries participated in the meeting. The consultation adapted a framework for action based on the recommendations from the participants. This framework focused on encouraging the inclusion of the following: knowledge-management and capacity-building in sustainable development strategy and planning; the need for updated data on sustainable development actors, activities, resources and networks; and an emphasis on an integrated approach to sustainability challenges in anticipation of the creation and adoption of SDGs.
The event was organised by UNOSD in partnership with the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) representing the ENVforum, the Korea Environment Institute, and the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD).
Prior to the consultation, the ENVforum also organised a research coordination meeting as part of it’s research initiative on Sustainable Development Goals Creation in ASEM Countries.
