What is ASEFInnoLab2 About?
The 2nd ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory (ASEFInnoLab2) on Universities’ Role in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Ecosystems is an opportunity for participants to exchange best practices, co-create new ideas and explore areas for collaboration among their institutions.
ASEFInnoLab2 is a 6-week collaborative online programme for university managers, administrators and academics across Asia and Europe to discuss strategies to enhance their role in the development of AI innovation ecosystems. In particular, the programme topics are:

2 | Research and Technology Transfer in AI Innovation Ecosystems
What do ASEFInnoLab2 Participants gain?
Enhanced Understanding of Data and AI Innovation Ecosystems
Gain fresh perspectives on strategies for developing AI innovation ecosystem. You will be introduced to the different roles of higher education institutions in AI innovation ecosystems.
Tailored Future Ready Action Plans
You will identify specific challenges and work on bespoke and scalable action plans to address throughout the innovation lab. You will be introduced to an Actional Plan Canvas methodology, similar to a Business Model Canvas, as a central tool to unlock the full potential of your work.
Professional Network Across Asia and Europe
The ASEFInnoLab is a strong network of Higher Education Professionals. Join this unique opportunity to build bi-lateral and multi-lateral partnerships with university managers, administrators, and academics from across Asia and Europe.
Collaborate with Fudan University
Fudan University, a leading public research university based in Shanghai, China will select two participants, based on the action plans developed in the innovation lab, for further collaboration.
Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who complete the innovation lab, including the presentation of an action plan during the closing session of the programme.
Who should apply?
- Higher Education Managers, Administrators or Academics in influencing strategy or leading initiatives related to Teaching and Entrepreneurship for AI Innovation Ecosystems & Research and Technology Transfer in AI Innovation Ecosystems.
- Citizen of one of the
- Excellent command of English (written and verbal).
- Individuals with the capacity to commit time for all 6 sessions.
The Open Call receives hundreds of applications. Only 40 of the top applicants will be selected. The screening process ensures balanced geographic representation, gender balance, and equal access for all.
ASEF values the growing interest in AI Innovation Ecosystems. Applicants who meet the criteria and express strong motivation and commitment to applying knowledge and skills gained from the innovation lab for the benefit of their institution or network are saught.
Please note, participants are not required to have technical or coding skills. The innovation lab focuses on the managerial and organisational aspects of AI innovation ecosystems.
Time Commitment & Building Blocks
This is a 6-week collaborative online programme. It will be held every Thursday, 4 November – 9 December 2021, 8.00-10.00AM GMT (Time Converter Here).
Please be informed, you will need to commit approximately 3 hours every week. This includes:
- Pioneering Sessions
Led by expert facilitators, pioneering sessions are held every Thursday, 4 November to 9 December 2021, 8.00-10.00AM GMT.
Renowned subject matter experts, university and industry leaders in the field of AI and innovation ecosystems will provide key insights and best practices. Sessions are designed to maximise collaboration and participant engagement. Recordings of sessions are made available on the ASEFInnoLab eLearning.
- Action Sessions
Guided by mentors, these optional 1-hour small-group discussions are held every Friday. The schedule on Friday is determined and agreed upon by the group and mentor.
Action sessions are a small group – a max of 10 participants – focused on discussing action plans and the content of the pioneering sessions. This is a safe and inclusive environment that facilitates real-time collaborative work with peers.
Although optional, this unique learning experience, closely collaborating with your mentor and peers is highly advised.
- Self-paced Work
Action Plan -Prepare your action plan to be presented in the closing session of the innovation lab. This is action plan will be the basis of Fudan University for selecting projects for potential collaboration.
ASEFInnoLab eLearning Platform – Gain access to resources, session recordings, reading materials, and a platform to engage peers regarding AI innovation ecosystems.
