During the workshop, participants worked intensively to formulate the initial storylines that will serve to develop potential pandemic scenarios.
The resource persons for the other distinguished participants were Prof Dr Rais Akhtar of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and co-author of the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) chapter on Climate Change and Health, and Dr Piet Bracke, member of the executive committee of the European Society of Health and Medical Sociology (ESHMS), the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Social Survey, and present chair of the Department of Sociology at Ghent University.
The third and final workshop will be held in France on 28-30 September 2010. It will elaborate on the work so far and finalise the outcomes of the scenario-building process. A public conference will be organised in Indonesia on 10 November 2010 to share the methodology, process and outcomes with a larger audience.
Next year, ASEF will explore and employ various channels of communication to enhance the dissemination and use of these comprehensive scenarios across sectors and regions. The 2011 workshop will also explore the role that the arts and culture sector could play to support the process.
