The launch of the Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) publication, Sustainable Development Goals and Indicators for a Small Planet: Securing the Means of Implementation in Viet Nam was held on 8 September 2015 in Hanoi, Viet Nam. The event was organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation’s (HSF) Viet Nam Office and the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE), a Vietnamese research institution under the Ministry of Environment.
The event brought together an active audience of Vietnamese policy-makers, academics, and people from different walks of life in Viet Nam to discuss various means of implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Viet Nam. Among the speakers of the event was Dr Le Dang DOANH, former Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management in Viet Nam, who noted that setting up appropriate institutional frameworks would be crucial in achieving SDGs in Viet Nam. Another attendee was Prof. Nguen The CHINH, Director General of ISPONRE, who expressed that it would be important for Viet Nam to continue its efforts in mastering the balancing act between eradication of poverty and protection of biodiversity.
The researchers of the publication shared presentation on Viet Nam’s experience and remaining challenges in poverty eradication, sustainable agriculture, and energy and climate change. Later the floor was open for a Q&A session to encourage exchange between the audience and speakers.
